Getting Ready for the Lavender Festival

I've had to put quilt making on hold while I get ready for the Lavender Festival. It's June 18th in Oak Ridge, TN. It was cancelled the last two years due to covid, so I'm hoping this year will be a great one with everyone excited to get back to see all the vendors.

I'm working on mostly 6x6 paintings, with a few slightly larger pieces.

I'm also doing some paintings on watercolor paper. These will be matted and ready to frame.

And I hoped to have prints to offer, but I am having a hard time getting the colors right on the prints. The scans look great... just like the original painting. But when I print, the colors are dark and dull, even the wrong colors. The first year I did prints, they were exactly as they should be. For the life of me, I can't figure out what's changed.

I just have next week left to paint, and that's really pushing it. I need time for the paintings to dry, add a sealer, then let the sealer dry... all before the 18th!

Thanks for visiting!

I’m Back!

Welcome back to my art blog!

Where have I been? My family has had a lot going on the last three years, so art and other handwork were put on hold for the most part while we focused on the most important things: the health and well-being of my little granddaughter during her cancer diagnosis, surgeries, treatments, and therapies. I just didn’t have time or energy to actively work my shops, advertise, promote, re-list, and all that goes with selling online. Honestly, those were no longer that important to me.

I have some larger paintings (see some in the sidebar) that are not listed in my Etsy shop. If you see something that interests you feel free to email me.

If you follow me on Instagram, turn on notifications so you don’t miss a post about art listings.

Thank you so much for coming back to visit!

Take care and God bless,

Lana

Prayers for My Family

I never in a million years dreamed I would be writing a post like this. But I am, and I'm asking for your prayers. My little two-year-old granddaughter, Jolee, had a large brain tumor removed earlier this week. The biopsy confirmed that it was cancer, and chemo will begin when she has healed from the surgery.

Our family asks for your prayers...
for Jolee, for her mommy and daddy,
and for the doctors treating her.
We have faith that the Lord will see us through this and little JoJo will be a testament to His love and faithfulness.

Thank you so much for your prayers.
God bless, Lana

P.S. I apologize if I miss a comment. Blogger is not sending me notifications of like it used to do.

What's New? Rustic, Rural Art

I've been adding new work to my shop, Honeysuckle Lane.
And if you'd like to see works in progress, follow along over at Instagram.
I really like the paintings I've done this summer...
lavender and bees,
old churches,
barns and fields,
rural landscapes...
it's more like me...
of what I know...
of where I live.

I live in rural Tennessee... the Cumberland Plateau... the Southern Appalachians... always have, always will. Fields full of wildflowers, old barns, little country churches, and overgrown home-places are forever in my heart. It's hard not to paint what you love, and I love all of these and more.

Come back soon to visit. It's been too quiet around here. :)

God bless,
Lana

New Artwork...

I've been painting more recently, getting ready for the Lavender Festival. I've used a variety of paints... Waverly craft paint, Valspar paint, and Liquitex and Golden artist acrylic paints and painted a variety of subjects.

Over the next several days, I'll share some of the paintings I've done. If you are in the Oak Ridge, TN area come see me Saturday, June 17th at the festival! I'll be on the sidewalk in front of The Ferrell Shop.

Have a blessed day,
Lana

It's been very hit or miss for me during the 30 paintings in 30 days, but I'm going to post whatever I manage to get finished. I am enjoying it... I just can't find enough time in the day!

Thanks for visiting...

Blessings,
Lana

P.S. I'll eventually get my new paintings listed here and here.

Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days - Day Nine

I finished a painting I started several days ago. I really like how it turned out, although there are a couple of things I see that I should have done differently. I think I got caught up in some of the things I wanted to make sure I did and I forgot to notice the overall painting. But, this Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days, which is hosted by Leslie Saeta, is for me to learn more and be more consistent in my art. I'm not able to do one every single day, but I'm adding them as I can.

Thank you for stopping by!

Blessings,
Lana

Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days - Day 6

I finished a small painting today. The last two I did were on canvas, and even though I've painted on hardboard lots of times before, it was a struggle to do this one, as simple as it is. I don't mean to sound negative, just being honest. I could see the painting in my mind, knew every stroke I wanted to make, but it wouldn't happen. I'm not sure if it was the switch from canvas to hardboard, or the paint, or the wrong brush... or all of the above. I wanted to use a palette knife with this one but I ended up using brushes. And I think my perspective is off on the rows of lavender... oh, well... I guess I can always paint over it and start again.

At least I painted today! :)

Blessings,
Lana

Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days - Day 5

8"x 10", acrylic on canvas, palette knife

Okay, let me start off by saying I painted this on New Year's Eve. The reason I'm sharing this (again) for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days challenge is because I feel guilty in joining it 5 days late... and I wanted to share something! :)

If you want to see more photos and read about it, just scroll back a couple of posts and you'll see it.

I'll do my best to get another painting ready for tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope this challenge will help me to learn more and get loosened up for all those lavender paintings I want to do.

I will eventually list some of my challenge paintings at Honeysuckle Lane.

Blessings,
Lana
